Adherence targets of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in human small intestines.
Formalin-fixed human small intestinal mucosa with mucus coating, villi, and lymphoid follicle epithelium at the mucosal surface was used to test the adherence sites of clinically isolated (Kanagawa phenomenon-positive) strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. V. parahaemolyticus strains grown on CFA agar (supplemented with 3% NaCl) for ca. 3 h at 37 degrees C possessed various levels of cell-associa...
متن کاملType III secretion system 1 of Vibrio parahaemolyticus induces oncosis in both epithelial and monocytic cell lines.
The Vibrio parahaemolyticus type III secretion system 1 (T3SS1) induces cytotoxicity in mammalian epithelial cells. We characterized the cell death phenotype in both epithelial (HeLa) and monocytic (U937) cell lines following infection with V. parahaemolyticus. Using a combination of the wild-type strain and gene knockouts, we confirmed that V. parahaemolyticus strain NY-4 was able to induce ce...
متن کاملAdherence of Burkholderia pseudomallei cells to cultured human epithelial cell lines is regulated by growth temperature.
We have investigated the adherence of Burkholderia pseudomallei, cultured under a number of different conditions, to six human epithelial cell lines. While several complex medium compositions had relatively little effect on adherence, growth at 30 degrees C was found to significantly increase adherence to all cell lines relative to that of cultures grown at 37 degrees C (P < 0.001).
متن کاملVibrio vulnificus (lactose-positive vibrio) and Vibrio parahaemolyticus differ in their susceptibilities to human serum.
Eleven Vibrio vulnificus (lactose-positive vibrio) strains were less susceptible to the bactericidal activity of normal human serum or serum treated with magnesium-ethyleneglycol-bis (beta-aminoethyl ether)-N,N'-tetraacetic acid than were six Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains.
متن کاملAdherence assays and Slime production of Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus
In this study we investigated the phenotypic slime production of Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains, food-borne pathogens, using a Congo red agar plate assay. Furthermore, we studied their ability to adhere to abiotic surfaces and Vero cells line. Our results showed that only V. alginolyticus ATCC 17749 was a slime-producer developing almost black colonies on Congo red aga...
